Set yourself up for success with Lavender
Before you get started, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got the following checked off your Lavender set-up list:
You’ve downloaded the Lavender browser extension and installed it
Not sure if your browser is supported? You can check the most up-to-date list of supported browsers here.
You’ve logged into your Dashboard with either Gmail or Microsoft Outlook (whichever you use as your primary email client)
You’ve set up your Profile so Lavender’s "Start Your Email" feature can work accurately.
Using Outlook? Make sure you followed these additional steps to install Lavender in your Outlook Desktop app.

Now that you’ve completed your initial setup of Lavender, you can start writing your first email - and use Lavender to improve it! 🎉

Here are a few more tips and tricks to get the most out of Lavender:
Rely on your Email Coach for suggestions
In this example of Lavender in Gmail, you can see:
the "Email Coach" is open
three long sentences have been flagged as "Necessary Fixes"
If you click on "Shorten/Split Long Sentence", the sentence that Lavender feels is too long will be underlined in red to make it easier to identify.
A window will also appear that will allow you to generate suggested replacements. Click the "Regenerate options" button to see what Lavender suggests as an alternative!
Each item flagged under "Necessary Fixes" will highlight a different section of the email or provide a suggested change or edit.
Have multiple suggestions under "Necessary Fixes"? Use the "Apply All Fixes" button to change them all - at once!
When clicking on "Apply All Fixes", Lavender will work to generate a suggested copy that considers all of the areas highlighted under "Necessary Fixes".
You’ll see this chat-like window appear, with Lavender showing three dots as it is putting together suggested copy that considers all your fixes!
Once it’s ready, it will look something like this:
Click Copy and paste the suggested text into the body of your email draft.
You'll now want to review the copy for clarity and understanding, and make any additional changes.
Once it looks good to you, and it's scoring a 90 or above, it’s ready to send! 🎉
Use your Mobile Editor
Did you know that 81% of emails are read on mobile devices? (Yes, it’s true!) 🤯
Optimizing your email to be read on a mobile device increases your chances of the recipient replying.
You can use Lavender’s "Mobile Editor" to see your email's appearance when read on a mobile device.
💡 Pro Tip: want to know what would the email look like on a mobile device using dark mode? Click the moon icon. How about if the email is read on a smartwatch? Click the watch icon!
